Earworms

Am currently on a long hiatus, and I have no idea how long it will last. Have even broken away from K-dramas for 3 weeks (take that I can’t even believe myself!). But rest assured no fret (just in case anyone’s curious or asking), all is well all is good, am at a very lovely and contented place right now and cannot be happier. Times like these get me on the roll thinking I should have gone out to live life a lil bit more in the past than use em up on K-dramas. But I have no regrets and have no plans on stopping… just that it’ll take me quite a bit to get back on track. Wait for me.

Been indulging in some earworms as of late and thought of sharing the awesomeness: –

Kim Nam Gil, why so cute?

Still watching the drama, though not as gripping or intense as I’d hoped for. Narrative structure still isn’t very compelling, execution is all barely scratching the surface And acting, I’m getting only solid vibes from Lee Jung Gil. Kim Nam Gil and Son Ye Jin aren’t doing much, and not to mention, a waste of what could have been of Ha Suk Jin and Honey Lee, even Lee Shi Un and Lee Soo Hyuk. Maybe Kim Ji Woo‘s glory days are of the past now, I must come to accept? I compare this, to Resurrection and Mawang. This is just utter disappointment….severely underwhelming.

But then I come across this:

And all is good again?

NO way drama wise, but I am allowed to swoon spazz over RL cuteness and aegyo! Kim Nam Gil and Son Ye Jin are perfection together off the camera!

I am still reeling in insane amount of squeeswooness from all the adorableness of this grown up kid!

Catfight!

LDH kick ass

KYAAAAAA, this made me adrenaline pumpppp! Not that drama has become better, but because it’s LDH going all kickass badassery! Right on your face PUNCHWHACKKICK type of  badassery. And you all know how doubtful and critical I was of her initially taking up action. Thought she isn’t as convincing as let’s say Kim So Yeon or Ha Ji Won, and scene isn’t as all out WHOA as the famed KSY and Kim Tae Hee catfight in IRIS, you can say I am impressed and happy with how her first fight turned out. PRETTY AWESOME IN MY EYES! But too short I want MOARRRR! I know it’s all choreographed and edited to look cool and all, but I can’t help but love the gritty conviction in every single body gesture and expression she displayed thruout the entire course of the fight. I was like, am I really watching LEE DA HAE here?!

Nope, I still don’t like or love drama. It still sucks script and directing wise, with a lot of things that don’t make sense, coupled with ridiculous flow of plot and an abundance of cheesy/HUHHH lines to make things worse. I still remember the horribly put together pilot episode, vividly etched in a corner of my mind, and continue to feel terrible for the entire cast for having to be subject to such atrocity. No, there aren’t any particular bad acts amongst the cast, they’re not near good or great but are very much into their roles, giving their best I’m sure. Especially LDH whom I didn’t expect to be this natural since her Green Rose days. Not particularly great but more fluid and less showy/acty compared to her previous feats. A definite restraint in OTT which has plagued her for quite some time since MG. Her character Soo Yeon reminds me a lot of her RL personality, lovely and bubbly coupled with grounded sensibility. And it doesn’t hurt that she has good chemistry with Hyuk (of course!) and almost everyone on her team in here, even her former MV co-star Baek Seung Hyun whom she’d only shared a minute or less together!

Too bad writer and director do not blend well, they have no single idea of what they really want. Drama cannot be more shallow and on-the-surface blingy than it already is, characters and motivations are as subtle as a dump truck, things do not make sense the way they’re supposed to. There is no way this can cut it, we are smarter than that.

But you know, if I end up dumping this (I foresee that I will), you know I’ll be coming back for this ONLY (or if there are more fights like these involving LDH!): –

Lunar New Year glee?

CNY

First day of the water snake year, Happy Lunar Year all!

This year’s comparatively quiet compared to the previous, my place. Last year we had fireworks and crackers blasting thru the night for hours and hours until the dragon arrived. This year? Drastically less, uneventful and un-happening. Last year we stayed at our grandma’s house until the night burned out, this year, everyone left for home 2 hours earlier, stating reasons of all sorts. I’m not sure why, but overall, the mood is pretty lull and vapid compared to the previous years. Lions and dragons (performances) don’t roam around neighborhoods anymore unless invited for special performances (eg. open houses), we get A LOT of Chinese new year songs on the radio and all, but for some reason they don’t excite or seem to be that inviting or invoking of the festive spirit. The night markets and bazaars are on but sources tell me business aren’t good, at all, probably because of the ridiculous price hikes and all hmmmm. I visited a friend’s house today, and reception didn’t seem as good or vibrant as before. Something’s obviously different, amiss this time around. Maybe I’m older, such things do not excite me anymore, or maybe, I’ve just grown out of the tradition? I really hope it’s just a passing feeling, and not me being all passive all of a sudden. It is the new year after all, I should be looking forward to more good things, blessings and abundances. 😉

YES it’s coming, this 2nd Feb!

YEAP!

Kang Ji Hwan‘s drama comeback, Incarnation of Money‘s first official teaser!

It looks pretty intriguing albeit a tad conventional, but more than anything, it’s KANG.JI.HWAN! Now if PD-writer team could just do their magic once more, surprise me (again). Be awesome. Be crackstatic. I have nothing more to ask.

So long, Farewell 2012.

2012, it’s coming to an end, how time rocketed by. We rejoiced and we laughed, we survived the test of what we thought would be the end of all ends. It’s been a year of bad as much as it was one with full of good and lovelies.  I look back and I think of all the beautiful and lovely stuff that I’ve been blessed with, family, friends and the awesome year of dramas and films. I look back and I think of all those who failed to make it, but lived colorful and beautiful lives up until to their very last breathe. I thank God for the every single good that have been cherished upon me, and I pray for those who have yielded in suffering, but with strength and courage.

So as I tread carefully towards the new year, of unknown and challenges, here’s me wishing all of you a wonderful Happy New Year 2013, and me bidding farewell to a year of good, bad, fruitful and eventful. Let us all rawk 2013 like how we lived and rawked 2012!

One of the most touching farewells I’ve seen this year, thanks to the Family Choir of Qualifications of Men 😉

ADIOS & SEE YA ALL NEXT YEAR!

Saeng Il Chuka Hae, Wookie!

It’s been a while eh? The thing about having so many and too many ILUS, forgetting is inevitable. But of course, having been a fan of Wookie for so many years (7 years!), I cannot possibly not remember his big day, the day he was born! ^^

I’ve been quite outdated and slow on his news recently, apart from checking his baidu bar weibo for updates and stuff (and not doing anything about it like before, perhaps I’ve grown older to know better fandom is overrated), I’ve pretty much been the neglectful fan. But it’s good to know that he’s doing great MC-ing for Strong Heart, read comments here and there about people appreciating the heart and life he brings to the show, and am so happy and proud for him. He can be a bit cold and deadpan, sometimes a bit taciturn, sometimes a tad tacky, but I like that he’s giving it all, he’s trying his best in something new and challenging to him. The show might not be able to reach heights achieved by the Hodong-Seung Gi tandem, but I believe he will be able to find a niche of his in this field.

Here’s wishing him a happy wonderful 31st Birthday (32nd in Korean) and a soaring career ahead! Saranghae Oppa! ❤ ❤

A reminiscence of one of Wookie’s more emotionally heartfelt dramas, Scent of a Woman with the awesome Kim Sun Ah. Drama may not have ended up a fav of mine (some sappy and over-wrought writing towards the end threw me off), but there’s no denying it had one of the more endearing OTP relationships ever. And not to mention, one of the more sexiness-charged dances ever shown on TV *I nearly drowned*.

Enjoy!

SHERLOCK-ed. And want MOAR T_T

I’d been dreading this, the long and dreadful wait for Season 3 of BBC Sherlock! T_T Been pretty late into the game but damn when I hopped on to the wagon, I knew it was so going to be forever. F-O-R-E-V-E-R! Such an ingenious wicked combination of intellect wit and endearment, how am I going watch other investigation procedural dramas without pitting them against the benchmark and threshold set by this brilliance?

Okay, it’s not exactly genius genius because Sherlock is a genius and he solves crimes miraculously (we know things don’t happen that way in RL), but the amount of intellect and heart put into the cases, characters and their dynamics – unbelievably believable and felt.  I don’t need to see thru logics or reason to believe in the characters, I feel them as I feel a living body and case exist and happen before my eyes. Ahhhhh, awesomeness has never felt this gratifying.

The hero who carried our Nation’s hope and glory: Lee Chong Wei

Win and lose, such a fine and thin line. How true is that.

We witnessed a battle fought with determination sweat and tears, backed by support and overwhelming screams from 2 countries. We witnessed physical strength and mental calm (in suppressing fear and pressure) put to a grueling test. We witnessed the birth of the first Olympics badminton singles champion (Lin Dan) who managed to conquer the victorious spot consecutively. But of all, of everything, amongst the crowd and clamor of joy and victory, we witnessed the birth of a Hero who fought hard, fell and gained hearts of our whole Nation. The person who carried the pillar of unity, and had managed to hold it mighty high amidst defeat last night. Bitterness and disappointment clouded his vision and hopes, but what he didn’t see last night: we saw with our own eyes, felt with our hearts and embraced with our deepest and utmost gratitude.
